ReplyDeleteIT`S LONELY OUTSIDE
ReplyDeleteLie a plundered valley`s dying spring,
a hush;
She emerges on kerbsides,
like an Armenian relic left outside to dry;
Her last shuffle in lands,
still alien -
she whimpers, mercy;
She pauses at the bakery Meherwan,
touching herself, finding she`s there;
The black of her goggles opaque,
like a dark for days left,
like a mirror for a life known,
a warmth fled forever.
1989.
Old Armenian woman at Meherwan Bakery,
Grant Road (E), South Bombay
'Her last shuffle in lands, still alien'... I like this line... it speaks of an otherness that I've always felt... and it's a real nice feeling!!
